Where to Eat in Plettenberg Bay When the View Matters as Much as the Food
Some of Plettenberg Bay's best restaurants aren't just known for their food, they're loved for the settings they call home.
Plettenberg Bay has never been a destination that demands an itinerary. The best days here unfold slowly: morning walks on the beach, long afternoons exploring the coastline, and evenings that seem to linger as the sun disappears behind the ocean.
And perhaps that's why some of the town's most memorable restaurants aren't simply places to eat. They're places to pause.
What makes dining in Plettenberg Bay so special isn't white tablecloth service or elaborate tasting menus. It's the feeling of sitting somewhere beautiful without pretence. Looking out over the ocean, surrounded by indigenous forest or tucked away beneath ancient trees, these are the places where good food is accompanied by an atmosphere that encourages you to stay a little longer.

Enrico's Ristorante
If there is one restaurant that captures the relaxed spirit of Keurbooms, it's Enrico's.
Set almost on the sand at Keurboomstrand, the restaurant looks out across one of the Garden Route's most beautiful stretches of coastline. The view changes with the weather and the tides: glassy blue mornings, rolling afternoon swells and, if you're lucky, dolphins moving through the bay.
The food is unmistakably Italian, with pizzas and pastas alongside plenty of seafood. It's the kind of menu that suits the setting: generous, uncomplicated and made for sharing around a table after a morning spent on the beach.
But the real appeal of Enrico's is how little ceremony there is around any of it. Families settle in for lunch, children wander down towards the sand, and conversations have a habit of continuing long after the plates have been cleared.
Come for a long lunch rather than a quick meal, preferably with nowhere you need to be afterwards.
It's casual in the best possible way, allowing the coastline to do most of the talking.

The Bungalow
Few restaurants in Plett put you quite as close to the ocean as The Bungalow.
Set beside Hobie Beach beneath the Beacon Island cliffs, its tables look directly across the bay, with ancient milkwood trees providing shade and the sound of the ocean never far away.
The all-day menu is similarly relaxed, moving between fresh seafood, wood-fired pizzas and burgers, with a cocktail list that makes a convincing argument for arriving before sunset. This isn't somewhere that requires a special occasion. It works just as well for a long lunch after the beach as it does for sundowners that gradually turn into dinner.
There's a polish to The Bungalow, but not much formality. You can arrive sandy from the beach, order something cold and settle in while the afternoon disappears.
Golden hour is particularly lovely. As the light softens over the bay and the beach begins to empty, it's very easy for one drink to become another.

Sky Villa Restaurant
High above the town, Sky Villa offers a completely different perspective of the coastline.
From its elevated position in Baron's View, the restaurant looks across the bay towards the ocean and mountains beyond. It's a view that gives you a sense of Plett's geography in a way that's difficult to appreciate from the shoreline.
The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a menu that ranges from familiar breakfast favourites to seafood, lighter dishes, and more substantial options. Breakfast is particularly appealing here: coffee, something unhurried from the kitchen and the entire bay stretched out below you.
Despite its boutique-hotel setting, dining at Sky Villa doesn't feel overly formal. The interiors, landscaped gardens and art give it a more considered feel than some of Plett's barefoot beachfront restaurants, but the atmosphere remains relaxed.
Come for breakfast on a clear morning, or later in the day when the changing light across the bay becomes part of the experience.
It's one of those places where you find yourself pausing mid-conversation simply to look at the view again.

The Palms
The Palms brings something slightly different to this list.
Set on Main Street within The Ivory Haus, it combines a café, restaurant and rooftop, making it a place that changes character throughout the day. You can stop in for morning coffee and a filled croissant, settle in for breakfast or lunch, or head upstairs later for drinks as the afternoon fades.
The restaurant itself serves throughout the day, while the rooftop keeps things deliberately simple, with drinks, cheese boards and views across Plett. It's this versatility that makes The Palms particularly easy to fit into a day spent exploring town.
Despite its stylish surroundings, it doesn't feel overly precious. The mood is social and relaxed, whether you're sitting beneath the umbrellas with a morning coffee or lingering upstairs over a drink.
For me, that's its appeal. Not every beautiful dining experience in Plettenberg Bay needs to take place by the beach. Sometimes all you need is a good table, something to eat, and nowhere you need to rush off to next.

Down to Earth
Set on the banks of the Bitou River, Down to Earth offers a quieter side of dining in Plettenberg Bay, away from the busier beachfront restaurants.
The setting is the real draw. Tables look out towards the river and surrounding greenery, creating an easy, unhurried atmosphere that feels distinctly removed from town. It's particularly lovely during the day, when the water and open landscape become a gentle backdrop to the meal.
The food follows much the same philosophy: relaxed and approachable rather than overly formal, making this an easy choice for breakfast, coffee or a leisurely lunch.
While many of Plett's best-known restaurant views are about the ocean, Down to Earth offers something different. Here, it's the stillness of the Bitou River, the greenery and the sense of space that make you want to linger.
Come when you're looking for somewhere peaceful, order without watching the clock, and let the river set the pace.

A Slower Way to Experience Plettenberg Bay
Perhaps the best thing about eating out in Plettenberg Bay is how little separation there is between the restaurant and the place itself.
The ocean is still there beside you. The coastline stretches out below you. You arrive with sandy feet after a morning on the beach, or sit down for dinner while the last light disappears across the bay.
Plett isn't a dining destination defined by formality or elaborate tasting menus. That's not really its appeal. It does something quieter particularly well: beautiful places that don't ask you to dress up, slow afternoons that turn into early evenings, and restaurants where the view becomes as much a part of the memory as whatever was on the plate.
If I had to choose just one experience, I'd make it a long lunch by the sea. Arrive without plans for afterwards, order another drink, and stay until the light begins to change.
Because in Plett, the best table isn't necessarily the one with the most elaborate menu. Sometimes, it's simply the one that makes you want to stay.
